How To Start Working On A Freelance Websites

May 31, 2021

I am going to skip the part on how to create an account on the freelance site, and going to explain how to start working on a freelance website. Applying for a job on a freelance site is a little bit different from our regular job application.
On the freelance website, we apply a job with a freelance profile and a job proposal explaining why we are a good candidate for the work.

There are few steps to be followed to get your first Job on Freelance website .

Complete Your Profile.

Before applying a job make sure you have completed your profile, give maximum information on your profile. Include all the skills you know, upload all certification and display your previous work/ portfolio. It will help the employer to choose the right candidate.

Know the top skills on demand.

The Right Job

Always search for the right job which matches your skills. It helps you to focus on getting the right kind of work on freelance websites. However, it is important to apply only to the jobs where your skills match. Thus saves the default points/ bids that are required to apply for a job.

A Good Proposal.

As I said earlier applying for jobs on a freelance website depends on your proposal writing. Proposal writing explains the employer why he has to choose you and why you are the best candidate to finish the job. There are a few points you need to remember before writing a proposal.

  1. Always read the job requirement, collect as much information from the job post. Make sure your skill matches the requirement.
  2. Open your writing with a formal greeting if possible greet them with the name, you can find the employer’s name from previous job reviews or from the regards section. If not greet them with Sir, Mam, or Team.
  3. After the greeting, start with your experience, explain why you are the right candidate for this project, and mention if you have any previous experience with the same kind of work.
  4. Remember to keep it crisp and compose with short points. The key for a good proposal writing is conveying the right information in a short paragraph
  5. Do not copy-paste the same proposal for all job applicants, which will not fetch you the project. Write an independent proposal for each project according to the requirement.

Perfect Bidding

This is the trickiest part of a freelance job. You have to self asses the cost to complete the project and bid for it. You can calculate either by the time consumed to finish the work or you can take a survey on what other freelancers are charging for the same kind of work.

Create milestones if you are bidding for fixed pricing projects. It helps you to get paid for the work you have completed on time.

Client Communication

After you get the job, communicating with the client is very important in remote jobs. Since it is the virtual working the client would like to know the updates on work status. Feel free to ask the client all doubts regarding the work requirement. This is something all clients will expect and appreciate.

Quality Work

Keep the quality of work intact, go the extra mile to finish the job with quality. Do not charge the client for correction and small changes. Obtaining full satisfaction from your client is most important in remote jobs.

Reviews and Ratings

Once you complete the work do not forget to get the reviews and ratings from your client. This helps you to grow on the freelance platform and gain more clients for your skill. It also helps you earn more money in your future projects.
