PM Vishwakarma Yojana: Real Benefits & Who Actually Qualifies (2026)

PM Vishwakarma Yojana: Real Benefits & Who Actually Qualifies (2026)

October 26, 2026

If you’re a traditional artisan — a tailor, carpenter, blacksmith, potter, or one of 14 other notified trades — PM Vishwakarma stacks four separate benefits on top of each other: a grant, a stipend, a certificate, and a cheap loan. Most guides list these individually without explaining how they actually connect, or what disqualifies you before you even apply.

What You Actually Get, in Order

  1. PM Vishwakarma Certificate & ID Card — official recognition of your trade, and the credential every later benefit is tied to
  2. Skill training with a ₹500/day stipend — you’re paid to attend, not just trained for free
  3. ₹15,000 toolkit incentive — a digital e-voucher, not cash, credited once you start basic training
  4. Collateral-free loan up to ₹3 lakh at 5% interest — ₹1 lakh in the first tranche (18-month term), then ₹2 lakh in the second (30-month term), available once the first is repaid satisfactorily
  5. Digital transaction incentive — a small per-transaction credit for doing business via UPI instead of cash

The Detail That Disqualifies a Lot of Applicants

You’re not eligible if you’ve taken a loan under a similar government self-employment scheme — PMEGP, Mudra, or PM SVANidhi — in the past 5 years. This trips up more people than the trade-eligibility list itself, since many artisans have already taken a Mudra loan at some point without realizing it would block this scheme later. Check your own loan history before applying, not after.

Only one member per family can be a beneficiary, and you must be 18 or older, working in one of the 18 notified trades — which include tailors, carpenters, blacksmiths, potters, masons, boat makers, locksmiths, and basket/broom makers, among others.

The Toolkit Grant Isn’t a Loan — But It Comes With a Catch

The ₹15,000 is a genuine grant, not something you repay. But it’s a digital e-voucher, not a cash transfer — meaning it’s meant to be spent on tools through approved channels, not withdrawn as money for other expenses. It’s released once you start basic training, not on registration alone.

PM Vishwakarma vs. PM SVANidhi — Don’t Confuse the Two

Both are collateral-free government loan schemes, but they serve different people. PM SVANidhi is for street vendors specifically, offers smaller loans (₹15,000 → ₹25,000 → ₹50,000 across three tranches), and has no toolkit or training component. PM Vishwakarma is for traditional trade artisans, offers a larger ₹3 lakh loan ceiling, and includes the toolkit grant and paid training PM SVANidhi doesn’t have. If you’re a street vendor rather than a trade artisan, PM SVANidhi — not this scheme — is the one that applies to you.

How to Apply

  1. Register at the official portal, pmvishwakarma.gov.in, or through your nearest Common Service Centre (CSC)
  2. Verify your Aadhaar and mobile number
  3. Select your specific trade from the 18 notified categories
  4. Provide bank account details, including your passbook and IFSC code
  5. Complete basic skill training once verified — this is when the toolkit e-voucher and stipend begin

Registration itself is free. Avoid any third party charging a fee to “process” your application — this is a common scam pattern around free government schemes generally, and PM Vishwakarma is no exception.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the ₹15,000 toolkit incentive a loan I need to repay?
No — it’s a direct grant, given as a digital e-voucher, not cash.

Can I get the PM Vishwakarma loan if I’ve taken a Mudra loan before?
Not if it was within the last 5 years — this specifically disqualifies you, and it’s the most commonly overlooked eligibility rule.

What’s the difference between PM Vishwakarma and PM SVANidhi?
PM Vishwakarma is for traditional trade artisans and includes a toolkit grant and paid training, with loans up to ₹3 lakh. PM SVANidhi is for street vendors specifically, with smaller loans up to ₹50,000 and no toolkit or training component.

Can more than one person in a family apply?
No — only one beneficiary per family is permitted.
