Short answer: Honeygain is a real company that does pay out, but it will not make you meaningful money, and it comes with privacy trade-offs you should understand before installing it. This page covers what it pays, how long a payout really takes, and whether it is available in India.
Honeygain is an app that shares your unused internet bandwidth. Businesses pay to route traffic through ordinary home connections, and Honeygain passes a small share to you as credits. It does not use your mobile data balance and it does not read your files. The company says traffic is encrypted and routed through pre-approved partners. These are its own claims, and it does not publish independent audit reports.
Yes in the sense that it is a working service that has paid users, and it does not ask you to pay anything to join. But “legit” and “worth it” are different questions. Review sites such as Trustpilot carry a mix of positive reviews and complaints about slow payouts, falling earnings and account issues, so treat any single review with caution.
Third-party reviews say it is available in India, and we found no country restriction on its payout instructions. We could not find per-country earning rates published by Honeygain, and several reviewers report lower earnings in some regions. Assume your earnings will be at the low end and check the app’s own figures after a week.
Based on Honeygain’s published rate of 3 credits for every 10 MB shared, and 10 credits equal to $0.01:
| Item | Figure |
|---|---|
| Rate | About $0.003 per 10 MB shared |
| Minimum payout | $20 (20,000 credits) |
| Traffic needed to reach $20 | About 66 GB shared |
| If you share 1 GB a day | About 2 months |
You cannot control how much traffic Honeygain routes through you, so the 1 GB a day above is an illustration, not a prediction. Payout fees and reward rates have changed in the past, so check the app before relying on any number here.
Once you pass $20, you request a payout. For PayPal, Honeygain reviews the request manually, then sends an invitation through its payment partner. Its own guide says the money usually arrives within 2 business days after you submit your PayPal details, though fraud checks can add delay. Your PayPal account needs to be able to hold US dollars, and converting to rupees and moving it to your bank adds PayPal’s conversion margin and fees. Third-party reviews also mention a payout fee, so read the fee shown in the app before you cash out.
It suits someone with an unlimited home connection and a spare device that is on all day, who treats the money as a small bonus. It does not suit anyone who needs reliable income, or who wants speed. If you want better returns on a small amount of time, a skill-based option from our guide to earning money online in India pays far more per hour.
Other apps work the same way, with different payout minimums and platform support. We compare five of them, with the cashout limits, in how to sell internet data and earn money in India. For options that need capital rather than bandwidth, see 12 passive income ideas in India.
It is not a joining-fee scam, and it has paid users. The real issues are low earnings, slow progress to the $20 minimum, and privacy trade-offs.
It shares your connection’s bandwidth, so on mobile data it would use your plan. Most users run it on Wi-Fi only.
Several devices can be linked to one account, but devices on the same IP address typically do not multiply earnings, so check the current rules in the app.
