PM-SYM Pension Scheme: Contribution Calculator (2026)

PM-SYM Pension Scheme: Contribution Calculator (2026)

October 22, 2026

PM-SYM is one of the few genuine deals in Indian personal finance: the government matches every rupee you contribute, rupee for rupee, until you’re 60 — then pays you a guaranteed pension for life. Yet very few unorganised workers who are eligible actually know their exact contribution or how the numbers work out over decades.

[Use the PM-SYM Calculator above ↑] — enter your age to see your exact monthly contribution and total fund built by 60.

What PM-SYM Actually Gives You

  • ₹3,000/month guaranteed pension after age 60, for life — fixed regardless of how markets or inflation move
  • The government matches your contribution 50:50, every single month
  • If you pass away, your spouse receives 50% (₹1,500/month) as family pension
  • If both spouses join, the household can receive ₹6,000/month combined after 60

Who Can Join

  • Unorganised sector workers — street vendors, domestic help, construction workers, rickshaw pullers, and similar occupations
  • Entry age: 18 to 40 — you cannot join after turning 40
  • Monthly income must be ₹15,000 or less
  • Must have an Aadhaar card and a savings bank account or Jan Dhan account

Why Joining Early Matters So Much

Your contribution is fixed for life based on the age you join at — it never increases later, even as your income grows. Someone joining at 18 pays just ₹55/month for the rest of their working life; someone joining at 39 pays roughly ₹190/month for the same eventual ₹3,000 pension. The gap compounds: an 18-year-old pays roughly ₹27,720 total over 42 years, while someone joining at 39 pays a similar or higher total over a much shorter period. Joining as early as you’re eligible is genuinely one of the highest-value financial decisions available to an unorganised worker.

How to Enrol

  1. Visit your nearest Common Service Centre (CSC), or self-register online via the official PM-SYM/maandhan portal or the myScheme portal
  2. Carry your Aadhaar card and savings bank/Jan Dhan account details (including IFSC code)
  3. Set up the auto-debit mandate for your monthly contribution
  4. Contributions are deducted automatically every month until you turn 60

What Happens If You Can’t Pay Some Months?

The scheme allows quarterly, half-yearly, or yearly contribution modes as alternatives to strict monthly payments, giving genuine flexibility for workers with irregular income. If you exit the scheme before 60, your own contributed amount (with the interest it earned) is returned to you — but you don’t receive the government’s matching contribution if you leave early. This makes PM-SYM most valuable as a genuine long-term commitment, not a short-term savings account.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum age to join PM-SYM?
40 years. You cannot enrol after your 40th birthday.

Does my contribution increase as I get older?
No — it’s fixed for life based on your age at entry, never revised upward later.

What happens to my spouse if I die before 60?
If you’ve contributed regularly, your spouse can choose to continue the scheme with further contributions, or withdraw under the scheme’s exit provisions.

Can I join if my income is above ₹15,000/month?
No — the ₹15,000 monthly income ceiling is a firm eligibility requirement.
